Below The Bar

3 min read

On one fateful day, David, the new King of Israel just remembered Saul’s family and desired to do good to them. (Remember that King Saul had been David’s adversary for a long while, and had sought to end his life). David just woke up and desired to show them God’s kindness.

The king asked, “Is there no one still alive from the house of Saul to whom I can show God’s kindness?” Ziba answered the king, “There is still a son of Jonathan; he is lame in both feet.” “Where is He?” the king asked. Ziba answered,“He is at the house of Makir son of Ammiel in Lo Debar.” ~ 2 Samuel 9:3‭-‬4 #Bible

His attention was called to Mephibosheth who was lame in his feet. So this guy could not move in life, no progress. Even worse, he was in a place called Lo Debar, a place of no pasture, a world he found himself in which my pastor describes as “below the bar.”

May I ask, where in life do you find yourself below the bar? Are you in a financial Lo Debar? An addictive Lo Debar? A character Lo Debar? A relationship Lo Debar? Academic Lo Debar? Career and professional Lo Debar? All the above Lo Debars?

Well, there’s good news for us; it took some few minutes of the King’s favor to change Mephibosheth’s status from below the bar to above the bar!

“And David said unto him, Fear not: for I will surely shew thee kindness for Jonathan thy father’s sake, and will restore thee all the land of Saul thy father; and thou shalt eat bread at my table continually.”

His blessings came in the form of uncommon kindness, restoration and promotion; from the backside of life to the palace.

I pray that this will be our portion also! When the appointed time is come, you will be remembered and you’ll be placed above the bar.

I entreat you to wait for the appointed time; wait with hope and faith; wait in prayer, wait in fellowship with believers, wait in Bible study.

Your latter will be greater than the past! Beloved your best is yet to come!

Stay blessed and share this with all you want to see above the bar someday!
