Today we’re reading Proverbs 6; but here are some wisdom thoughts from yesterday’s reading of Proverbs 5:

Benji shares,
Chapter 5 describes an immoral woman with several consequences we might get into just getting close to her.
But one thing which struck me was verse 4 where she is likened to a double-edged sword.

For the lips of the adulterous woman drip honey, and her speech is smoother than oil; but in the end she is bitter as gall, sharp as a double-edged sword. ~ Proverbs 5:3‭-‬4 NIV

Apart from the word of God likened to a double-edged sword an immoral woman is the only subject described as such.
Hence if we are not careful enough of such people, we could be impacted negatively probably in the same magnitude as the word of God.
I have learnt to stay away from immoral women (and men) 🙌🏻 ~ Benjamin, UK

Kweku shares:
What I observe from this passage is a father giving marriage advice to his son. He gives his son a clear description of the kind of woman he should avoid at all cost: “the adulteress” who is mentioned quite a few times in the passage.

“Her words are like honey but her heart is bitter and her ways lead to death and are crooked etc.” She can entice you sensually but you will groan at the end of your life when you marry or enter into a relationship with such a woman.

Alternatively he gives a description of the kind of woman you should seek, “a loving doe, a graceful deer.” He also states, “drink water from your own cistern, running water from your own well..”

I am quite unclear about this part but with the way he immediately shifts to “and may you be blessed with the wife of your youth.” I think the father is urging his son to stay committed to his wife and not to share the marriage bed with strangers.

I may be over-thinking this part but all in all relationships are very important and marriage, which is the best expression of God’s covenant with man, is a sacred thing and we are urged to turn away from any and all types of unfaithfulness (adultery) that would lead to the breaking of that sacred bond…for our own good.

Chale these are my thoughts… let me hear you thoughts on these too😅🙏🏾

Proverbs 5:1-3

My son, pay attention to my wisdom, listen well to my words of insight, that you may maintain discretion and your lips may preserve knowledge. For the lips of an adulteress drip honey, and her speech is smoother than oil. #Bible

I want to draw your attention to the first three verses. Solomon describes two kinds of people here:

  1. Those who maintain discretion and whose lips preserve knowledge.
  2. Those whose speech are smooth and sweet, the adulterous man/woman.

Which kind are you or do you hope to be? And which kind do you keep as friends?

Do your words speak wisdom, do they give counsel, do they help others know Jesus? Or are you leading people to sin with your smooth speech and lovely voice?

But if you want to be in category one, you must:

“…Listen Well To my Words Of Insight, that you may maintain discretion and your lips may preserve knowledge.”

You need to submit yourself to the authority of God’s word, your parents, your pastors and mentors and LISTEN attentively to their words of insight.

Stay blessed and kindly share your thoughts on Proverbs 5.
