One day a sinner cried out in repentance, he acknowledged his sins, confessed them on the verge of death and then Jesus said, “Surely, you shall be with me in paradise” (Luke 23:43).
You probably know this story back and forth as most people do, yet we fail to realize the key lesson it teaches us. Here goes: It doesn’t matter your sin, nor does it matter how long you’ve lived in it; murder, fraud, abortion, rape, theft, homosexuality, lies, porn, adultery, fornication, gossip, pride, list goes on..; if you can call on Jesus, you will be saved. (Oh such great mercy and love made available for you and I).
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. ~ Jn 3:16-17
Often we hear this phrase, “Sinners go to hell!” Well maybe and yes this is true if the person dies in their sin. But while we have life I learnt this new one:
“Sinners go to Jesus!” Or “Sinners go to Church!”
Yep, that’s where we go for ‘sin therapy.’ Eventually, this same sinner when he/she confesses and believes in Jesus, gets saved, and at the end of age gets to be in heaven.
I don’t know what sin you are drowning in, but Jesus wants to get into your boat and keep you from sinking. I say this because one day Peter realized his great catch of fish was causing his boat to sink. It was a great catch at the start, but he was going to die with it.
Maybe that sin started as a good thing for you: a relationship that fulfilled your emotional or financial needs; a habit that gave you some sort of temporal happiness; or an addiction that made you feel like you belong; but now you realize that you’re sinking deep in sin and you want out. God is calling you today with arms stretched out wide, come to Jesus and live.
Pray this prayer with me:
“Dear Lord Jesus, I am a sinner who needs you in my life. I believe you died for my sins to give me eternal life. I accept you into my heart, to reign, to guide, and to change me. Lord Jesus, take every shackle off my life, save me from death and destruction, and bring me into your marvelous light. Thank you for this precious gift of salvation and for your amazing grace. Amen.”
