Blind In One Eye!

3 min read

There lived two shopkeepers who were bitter business rivals and had their shops opposite each other.
One night an angel appeared to one of the shopkeepers in a dream and said,

“I will give you anything you ask, but whatever you receive, your rival will receive twice as much. What is your desire?”

This man frowned and said, “Strike me blind in one eye.”

If this isn’t jealousy of the worst kind! Eish!! (Awose koraa agu me)

Dear friend, jealousy, envy, and division are self-destructive emotions that can tear Christians apart.

Some of us have received the Gospel but have not allowed the Holy Spirit to change our hearts and transform our characters and emotions. As a result, the focus of meaningful fellowship is shifted.

You’re envious of the brother/sister who got a promotion, or a new car, new phone, or some really nice clothing, etc.

Or you’ve decided to associate with only those who have cars or wear nice clothes to school, work or church. Paul identified these as signs of immaturity and worldliness in the Church (1 Corinthians 3:3).

When we do that, we do not act like people who have been transformed by the Gospel.

  • Dear friend, be content and thankful for what you have;
  • Genuinely celebrate the gifts and blessings of others;
  • Be nice to all, rich and poor (especially poor), educated and non-educated, etc., and
  • Share all good things.

NB: Envy, jealousy and bitterness will drive grace away from our lives.

See to it that no one falls short of God’s grace; that no root of resentment springs up and causes trouble, and by it many be defiled; ~ Hebrews 12:15 AMP

Let’s pray:

“Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for this prompting in my heart concerning envy and bitterness. I ask that you heal my heart of these traits and cause your grace to be available to me. Help me celebrate the joy of others and be genuinely happy for my brethren, in Jesus’ name I pray, Amen!

Much love, stay blessed!
