Today we are super blessed to have one of my mothers in the faith, Lady Pastor Ama Amuasi, share a powerful word from Matthew 22 with us this morning, and another later this evening. You’ll be super blessed as you read.
Morning Devotion: The Parable of the Wedding Banquet (Matthew 22:1-14).
- In Matthew 22, Jesus tells the parable of a king who prepares a grand wedding banquet for his son.
- The invitations go out, but the invited guests refuse to come (v1-3).
- Some ignore the invitation, while others respond with hostility, mistreating the king’s messengers (v5-7).
“But they paid no attention and went off—one to his field, another to his business. The rest seized his servants, mistreated them and killed them (v5-6).
- In response, the king sends his servants out again, this time to invite anyone they find—good or bad, rich or poor (v8-10).
- The banquet hall is filled with people, but there is one man who isn’t dressed in wedding clothes, and he is cast out (v11-14).

Key Lessons
#1. God’s Invitation is for All
The king in the parable represents God, and the wedding banquet symbolizes the Kingdom of Heaven. God’s invitation is extended to everyone, not just to a select few.
The initial guests in the parable represent those who rejected Jesus, while the invitation to “anyone you find” signifies the universal call of the Gospel. No one is excluded based on their status, background, or past. God’s grace is freely offered to all.
#2. We Must Respond to the Invitation:
The invited guests had a choice to accept or reject the invitation. Some chose to ignore it, while others were too busy with their own lives. Today, we are faced with the same choice.
God extends His invitation to us daily—an invitation to relationship, grace, and eternal life. Are we too distracted by the things of this world to respond? Or are we humbly accepting His call?

#3. The Wedding Garment Represents Righteousness
- In the parable, the man who entered the banquet without wedding clothes was cast out. This signifies that we cannot enter God’s kingdom on our own terms.
- The “wedding garment” symbolizes the righteousness that comes through faith in Christ.
- Our good works, efforts, or appearance won’t save us—only the righteousness of Jesus can clothe us appropriately for the banquet in Heaven.
#4. Many are Called, But Few are Chosen
- Jesus ends the parable with this sobering statement: “For many are called, but few are chosen” (Matthew 22:14).
- God’s invitation is open to all, but not everyone will accept it.
- Those who truly accept the invitation will be transformed by God’s grace, living lives that reflect His righteousness.

Application:
- Are you responding to God’s invitation in your life? Maybe you’ve been distracted or delayed, putting off the decision to fully follow Him.
- Today, God is reminding us that the door to His banquet is open, but we must choose to enter.
- Let’s clothe ourselves with the righteousness of Christ, trust in His grace, and live in a way that honors the invitation we’ve received.
Prayer:
“Heavenly Father, thank You for inviting us to Your banquet. Help us to accept Your invitation with open hearts, to put on the righteousness of Christ, and to live in a way that reflects Your grace. Forgive us when we are distracted by the world, and draw us closer to You each day. In Jesus’ name, Amen.“
