Four (4) Points from 24

6 min read

Then Jesus went out and departed from the temple, and His disciples came up to show Him the buildings of the temple. And Jesus said to them, “Do you not see all these things? Assuredly, I say to you, not one stone shall be left here upon another, that shall not be thrown down.” ~ Matthew 24:1-2

  • Just as you and I in this modern age, the disciples of Jesus were impressed by the great temple (Solomon’s Temple).
  • It was perhaps one of the wonders of their world (see image below).
  • But then Jesus gave a prophecy about the total destruction of the temple and this has been long fulfilled (Read about how the Romans destroyed Jerusalem in AD 70).

This chapter (Matthew 24) speaks about a lot of wonderful things (do make time to read) and I would want to remind you about four(4) of them in short points.

  • First: It speaks about the many things we, as humans, are impressed about/admire and how they are nothing in God’s eyes (v1-2).
  • Remember, the things that are highly exalted by men are lowly esteemed in Heaven and vice versa (Luke 16:14-15).
  • Can I ask you something: what are you impressed by?
  • What do you know God is impressed by (from His Word)? Align these two.
Now the Pharisees, who were lovers of money, were listening to all these things and were sneering and ridiculing Him.

So He said to them, “You are the ones who declare yourselves just and upright in the sight of men, but God knows your hearts [your thoughts, your desires, your secrets]; for that which is highly esteemed among men is detestable in the sight of God. ~ Luke 16:14-15
  • Second: This also speaks about the power of prophecy and how the word of God will not fall to the ground! (v2)
  • Dear friend, believe in the prophetic word God gives to you.
  • There is a certain level of kingdom advancement that comes only from prophecy (2 Chronicles 20:20).
So they rose early in the morning and went out into the Wilderness of Tekoa; and as they went out, Jehoshaphat stood and said,
“Hear me, O Judah and you inhabitants of Jerusalem: Believe in the Lord your God, and you shall be established; believe His prophets, and you shall prosper." ~ 2 Chronicles 20:20
  • The words of the Bible are a “sure word of prophecy” for our lives.
  • Be rest assured, all that God has said about you and I will come to pass.
  • In Matthew 24, Jesus gave even more prophecies about when Jerusalem would be destroyed, His second coming (almost 20 plus signs), and the end of the age. [Dig in further dear Christian and you will be blessed]!
We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:

Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.
For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost. ~ 2 Peter 1:19-21

Now as He sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately, saying, “Tell us, when will these things be? And what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?”

And Jesus answered and said to them: “Take heed that no one deceives you. For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many.”

Third: Love the private place (“the disciples came to Him privately…”)

  • There is some important information that God will give only to those who seek Him in a private place.
  • All through the scriptures, we learn that there’s a private place reserved for the devoted lovers of YAHWEH, where they sit near him and receive the revelation-secrets of his promises.” (Psalms 25:14)
  • God is calling us back to a personal relationship with Him.

Last point and we’re done for today:

  • Before Jesus would give the disciples the signs to expect, He gives a caution that we leave with you also: “Take heed that no one deceives you. For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many.
  • Deception is a potent force from the enemy that can shipwreck our faith. Fight it head-on: wearing the belt of truth and holding the Sword of the Spirit (which is the Word of God).
  • Dear friend, when you have your quiet time, you build your faith in Christ and you get rooted in Him. This is the surest way to avoid the MANY deceptions that will come our way.
