“And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, He went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed.” ~ Mark 1:35
The Gospels give us a rare glimpse into the life of our Lord and Master, Jesus Christ—our perfect example. Throughout the Gospels, we see that Jesus consistently sought to be alone with God (see Matthew 14:23, Mark 6:45-46, Luke 5:16, John 6:15).
After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray. Later that night, he was there alone... - Matthew 14:23
Immediately Jesus made his disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of him to Bethsaida, while he dismissed the crowd. After leaving them, he went up on a mountainside to pray. - Mark 6:45-46

In this context, “alone with God” means spending personal, quality time with the Lord in deep fellowship.
Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the Lord God among the trees of the garden. - Gen 3:8
- From the beginning, God has desired an intimate relationship with humanity.
- Indeed, man was created to have an intimate relationship with Him (Genesis 3:8).
- We see this intimacy with God reflected in the lives of patriarchs like Enoch, Abraham, Isaac, and David.

In John 17:3, Jesus said, “And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.”
Here, Jesus reveals that the purpose of eternal life is to know God intimately, a closeness that is cultivated by spending time “alone with God.”
- Let’s focus on Jesus’ example. In our theme verse, Jesus rises early and seeks a solitary place to pray.
- The striking detail here is priority: time with God was so essential to Jesus that He placed it first, even above His ministry and relationships.
- This was His greatest secret to pleasing God and fulfilling His purpose.

- Life can often be full of activities and distractions. But we must always prioritize our time alone with God.
- Be intentional—set aside specific times in your day to spend with the Lord.
- In these moments, you should engage the Lord through His word, prayer, and worship.
- The benefits of being with the Lord are countless, but the greatest is becoming like Him.
As you spend time alone with God, you’ll grow to reflect His character, love, and charisma. It’s time to be alone with God!
