KFC and Feedback

5 min read
  • Imagine taking 5,000 people to KFC and feeding them with no sweat (that’s a huge financial miracle); but what would you do after?
  • Probably post on social media about your financial might, humanitarian feat or miracle power?
  • Well, after feeding 5,000+ people with the KFC of their day, Jesus withdrew to be alone with God in prayer. Let’s dig in for 2 mins:

And it happened, as He was alone praying, that His disciples joined Him, and He asked them, saying, “Who do the crowds say that I am?” So they answered and said, “John the Baptist, but some say Elijah; and others say that one of the old prophets has risen again.”
He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Peter answered and said, “The Christ of God.” ~ Luke 9:18-20

  • Honestly, the more we read about Jesus’ life, the more I am amazed at the details of His consistent dependence on God the Father.
  • He really stripped off all His divine privileges and lived as a man (Phil 2:5-11); showing us how men ought to live on this earth.
  • I pray we develop this lifestyle of Jesus; consistent alone times with God (before the day begins, at the point of the miracles, after the miracles, at the end of the day, all the time!)

Are we seeing the pattern in Jesus’ prayer life? I hope we all catch this and learn from Him. Anyway, His disciples joined Him. as He prayed and then Jesus made some enquiries that I want us to focus on:

And it happened, as He was alone praying, that His disciples joined Him, and He asked them, saying, “Who do the crowds say that I am?”

  • You see, Jesus knew who He was but I believe He wanted to know if His life among the people was demonstrating that truth.
  • In other words, He wanted to know if what was coming out of Him to others was consistent with who He was supposed to be.
  • Example: If you think you are kind or humble, it will take the people around you to tell you if kindness or humility is truly showing forth in your life.

This is why it is very necessary to have a Godly community and seek feedback. The Christian life is not a solo walk (solo judgment, but a family pilgrimage). Jesus sought feedback from His disciples and I want to suggest we do the same.

  • One of my fathers, Rev Amuasi, taught me that God often uses others to show us if our lives are consistent with His truth.
  • These people point out to us if we are on the right path, where we are wrong (our errors), and point us in the right direction (eg. God sent Nathan to David to point out his errors).

Dear Christian, seek to know from trusted people (very important!) who you are turning out to be and be in a disposition to receive correction from the sources God has given you. (Getting to the end of the year is a good time to do this).

Who can you get feedback from today? Do you have mentors (please get some if you don’t)? Are you submitted under leadership? Do you have Godly friends and family? Let’s seek feedback as Jesus did.

  • It is a great blessing to have people who can point out some truths about your life to you and who can correct you! I need you to know it is a great privilege to have this!
  • And we must have a disposition of gladness of heart when this happens. Have a willing soft heart.
  • We all err and it must be easy for you to be spoken to and for you to accept correction (this was the difference between David and Saul; not the amount of mistakes).

Humility says you can learn from anyone. We don’t know it all. No one does! That’s why we need to remain teachable, humble, and lifelong learners. Heyy… you’re blessed!
