Breakfast at the Beach

13 min read
  • Wouldn’t you agree that one of the loveliest things would be to have a romantic outing at the beach? (Breakfast, dinner, etc… it will still be lovely).
  • You may know of the last supper (also called the Lord’s supper) but did you also know there is the last Breakfast or breakfast at the beach?
  • WordPress says has taken about 6 hours to prepare this draft, and even though we couldn’t exhaust it all of John 21, I believe it was worth it. Let’s dig in:

After these things Jesus revealed Himself again to the disciples at the Sea of Tiberias, and He revealed Himself in this way: Simon Peter, Thomas who was called Didymus, Nathanael of Cana in Galilee, the sons of Zebedee, and two others of His disciples were together. ~ John 21:1-2

  • Dear friend, in the new year, God is going to reveal Himself to you and I again! You see, when somebody reveals himself to you, it’s a special blessing (it seems normal, but no it’s not).
  • Okay if it’s not special, why doesn’t Jesus appear to us now or appear in your house also? So all these things we read as normal are very special things He did and does.

I am always excited and desiring when I listen to men like Kenneth Hagin and Prophet Kakra Baiden speak about their supernatural encounters with Jesus. I want to believe God for you and me, that this year we will have such amazing encounters also (physically, dreams, visions, etc.)

v2 says “…they were together(NKJV)” But how many were together? 7 out of the 12… this means 1/4th not accounted for (Mercy!). May you be part of the group and meetings that God has called you to be a part of and may you not miss important encounters.

  • That is also a special thing; to belong to a family or a group. And this group was appointed by Jesus Himself…
  • I believe God places us in our families, fellowship, groups, and churches for a reason (Acts 17:26). (Pray and know where God has placed you and commit there).
  • John 21 is about a dead man who has resurrected; has come to have a discussion and breakfast; and give them detailed notes after breakfast: “If you love me, feed my sheep…”

So just imagine someone you know who is dead, coming back to do all these fantastic things, and some people were not there. Some people missed this special encounter because of their absence from their family/group meeting.

Simon Peter said to them, “I am going fishing.” They said to him, “We are going with you also.” They went out and immediately got into the boat, and that night they caught nothing.
  • Dear friend, in this coming year, every form of going backwards is cancelled in Jesus’ name!
  • I mean after 3 years of being in the ministry with Jesuspreaching, healing, raising the dead you now say you’re going back fishing? (v3).
  • Ow Peter and co… the same place where you were called from, you are going back. Dear friend, how can it be that in this year 2025, you go back and not forward?? God forbid!!

I want to ask that we pray about this: that in this new year, we will never go back to what we’ve been called from: back to no personal quiet time, no prayer, no Bible study, careless living, fruitless labour, lack of purpose, laziness, fornication, back to pornography, back to selfishness, stopping your divine assignment to go back to a money making business, etc.

But you see the experience of a funeral, of death, trauma, betrayal, crucifixion, the cross, etc., is a terrible experience. And you cannot be surprised that people are not normal after certain experiences.

  • Because of certain experiences, people’s minds change… but I pray that you and I will not change.
  • Listen, I want to encourage everyone reading this: God has really called you. It is true and real, despite what is happening around you.
  • It is later on when we look back that we’ll see the full picture (like a drone shot). When you see from a certain perspective, that’s when you’ll understand.

The disciples couldn’t understand that Jesus had died and the grieving experience was not easy for them. They went back fishing. It was much later that they realised that Jesus’ death was actually a very good thing and the beginning of a greater life!

There are many things we don’t understand, can’t understand, and won’t understand now… and we have to trust God! So in this new year, no experience is going to turn you back from your original calling; and that must be your story!

  • May we not say: “I go back fishing.” And the futility of it is that they caught nothing when they went fishing, it leads to nothing.
  • So the right thing is to believe in what God has said (that they are fishers of men). I want to reassure you, that the right thing is to believe God and continue living for and with Him.
  • Whatever may be happening could be a test of your faith. Yes; faith is something that is tested!

Paul said, “I have kept the faith…” that is a very powerful statement. He was saying: I still believe what I believed! That is not an easy thing to say: “I continued believing to the end, what I originally believed; it hasn’t changed!”

That is the meaning of the word faithful! That is what God requires (1 Cor 4:2) and rewards (Matt 25:23). I mean, look at what Peter is doing in this chapter – going back fishing. Nobody is expecting him to do this, and people are following him too (mercy!)

  • Listen, I believe the more we grow and head towards eternity, we’ll be thankful that we believe what you believe!
  • But an experience can change something, and that’s why we ought to pray about it. Our life, our purpose, our ministry, etc., are only going forward!
But when the morning had now come, Jesus stood on the shore; yet the disciples did not know that it was Jesus. Then Jesus said to them, “Children, have you any food?” They answered Him, “No.”
And He said to them, “Cast the net on the right side of the boat, and you will find some. So they cast, and now they were not able to draw it in because of the multitude of fish. (v4-6)

Wooow… amidst all the failure and backsliding, Jesus went to them. Dear friend, Jesus’ voice in our lives is like the Google Map.

  • When you’re driving with Google Maps and you miss your turn, it never raises its voice or gets irritated or angry.
  • It just gives you the next turn, asks that you do a U-turn or gives the next direction. And if you don’t do that second U-turn, it will just tell you the next U-turn you should do.
That's the precious Holy Spirit. You've gone fishing, you haven't caught anything... Okay, you throw the net to the right side and catch plenty of fish. Then come to shore and let's eat...

Woow, isn’t that amazing? It doesn’t make what you did right o, but now He offers grace and undeserved help (later He restores you from the issues). May the Lord offer us undeserved grace, help, direction and assistance!

  • Let’s skip a bit and jump to the later part of John 21 and end with a little bit about the breakfast itself
  • We unfortunately cannot exhaust it all but I encourage you to read the entire John 21 and the Holy Spirit will add to the little we’ve shared.
So when they had eaten breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me more than these?” He said to Him, “Yes, Lord; You know that I love You.” He said to him, “Feed My lambs.”
He said to him again a second time, “Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me?” He said to Him, “Yes, Lord; You know that I love You.” He said to him, “Tend My sheep.”
He said to him the third time, “Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me?” Peter was grieved because He said to him the third time, “Do you love Me?” And he said to Him, “Lord, You know all things; You know that I love You.” Jesus said to him, “Feed My sheep." ~ John 21:15-17
  • Jesus Christ spoke to Peter and commissioned him to feed His sheep, tend or care for them and to teach them.
  • Love is the highlight of the Great Commission according to the Gospel of John. The Great Commission is a commission of love.
  • Perhaps, our greatest expression of love to Jesus is to feed His sheep and to look after them.
  • Your great love for God can be expressed by feeding and teaching His little lambs. This is the Great Commission!
  • Our love for God is not in what we say, it is in obeying and doing what He says. God’s love language is obedience!
Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen. ~ Matthew 28:19-20
  • “Do you love me? If you love me feed my sheep; feed my lambs; tend my sheep… (Don’t take them fishing, tend and feed them – check out Dairy of a Shepherd)
  • Feeding the sheep is the same as going to the nations. Feeding the sheep is the same as teaching the members.
  • But Jesus is warning that only those who love Him will obey the Great Commission. Oh how true this is!
  • Only those who love God can, and will obey the Great Commission. Today, it is as though there is a great commission to find money.
  • It is as though the new great commission is to get rich and acquire the wealth of this world.
Seek ye first the Kingdom of wealth...? (Is that it??)
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believes in Him will not perish but have 2 houses in Trasacco Villa, one in Beverly Hills, an apartment in Manhattan, $5 million in the account and a big showroom full of cars and airplanes.
  • We act and preach as though we have been commissioned by God to make everyone rich.
  • Perhaps, some people have a special instruction from the Lord to make people rich; but what I am sure is that you cannot show me this great commission in the Bible.
  • The Great Commission is the commission to preach the gospel. If we love God, we will obey him!
“Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.” – 1 Corinthians 15:58

Rewards are some of the highest forms of motivation which we find in existence. Learn to reward people. Even Jesus expected His reward (Hebrews 12:2). Jesus was motivated by the thought of His reward.

"...let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. FOR THE JOY SET BEFORE HIM he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart. (Hebrews 12:1-3)
  • Why do athletes run around for hours every day? Why do boxers subject themselves to severe, dangerous and life-threatening knocks on the head?
  • It is because of the joy of a million dollars or more that will come after the knocking is over. The joy that is set before people will make them do almost anything.

After Jesus spoke to Peter about the great commission, He told him about His death and how he would glorify God. He predicted that Peter would die in a way that he might not like, but that same way would glorify God!

“Most assuredly, I say to you, when you were younger, you girded yourself and walked where you wished; but when you are old, you will stretch out your hands, and another will gird you and carry you where you do not wish.”
This He spoke, signifying by what death he would glorify God. And when He had spoken this, He said to him, “Follow Me.” (John 21:18-19).
  • Perhaps, the key that made Peter willing to die for His Jesus was the fact that Jesus Himself had set the example.
  • Jesus had shown that there was a great reward in following God to the end. Rewards can make people do almost anything!
  • People who have died for the cause of Christ, died willingly, thinking of the reward that lay ahead. Do you know the rewards that lie ahead of you?

May the Lord reveal to us in His word and by His Spirit the great rewards that are ahead of us! May this also motivate us in the tough times, to push through to the end like Jesus did! Heyy… you’re blessed!
