Scripture Passage: Proverbs 10

Proverbs 10 compares the righteous to the wicked; the diligent to the lazy; the wise to fools; the rich to the poor, etc.

A serene pathway surrounded by greenery with the text: 'Whoever walks in INTEGRITY walks SECURELY, but he who makes his ways CROOKED will be FOUND OUT. (Proverbs 10:9)'

The easiest way to understand this whole chapter is to imagine that you’ve been asked to draw a table. The table should show “Differences or Comparison between A and B.”

Having this in mind will open your understanding of this chapter. We’ll share one wisdom thought with you below.

“Lazy hands make for poverty, but diligent hands bring wealth. He who gathers crops in summer is a prudent son, but he who sleeps during harvest is a disgraceful son.” Proverbs 10:4-5

One of the things no one desires is poverty. I am yet to meet someone who says, “I want to be poor.” Never! Especially we Christians. Our Lord became poor for our sake that we may gain glorious riches. Hence, a poverty mentality should be far away from us, not so?

Now wisdom from Proverbs 10 guides us in one of the ways to make this a reality. It reads: “The person who gathers crops in the summer is prudent (which just means a wise person). But the son who sleeps during harvest is a disgraceful son.” (Mercy!)

Dear Christian, today I was sent to tell you to wake up!! Wake up!! It is time to wake up from our sleep and slumber!!

“Don’t you have a saying, ‘It’s still four months until harvest’? I tell you, OPEN YOUR EYES and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest.” ~ Jesus

Dear Christian, wake up and your open eyes. This is harvest time; this is the time to win souls to the Lord. Many many more must come to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. You and I must send the gospel to them. So wake up!!

Listen, most of your friends and people you meet gallivanting around are empty inside; especially the loud and rude ones.

  • They yearn for affection. They have a certain desire to be important.
  • Some of them are broken and feel worthless.
  • Some have no joy in their lives. They are searching for it in all the wrong places.

If only we will rise up and preach the Gospel, share a devotional with them, invite them to church, and say:

“Brother/sister, I’ve found a solution to your problem. Come, let’s go meet Jesus. He did it for me, and He will do it for you too.”

Beloved, you and I have to grab this opportunity to be wise sons and daughters of God. What do you think? Lest we will be a disgraceful sons/daughters o.

If we don’t make bold stands and join the harvest for God, we can easily disgrace ourselves big time, as Christians. No wonder the Bible says, “He that winneth a soul is wise…” ~ Proverbs 11:30

It is wisdom to win souls for Jesus. Can I show you why? It says the fruits of the righteous (the souls you win), are a tree of life; which is like an everlasting, always fruitful tree.

It is also in Proverbs 10:4, and there we are cautioned: “If you are lazy, you create poverty, but when you are diligent (which is the same as being hardworking, committed, driven, etc), you create wealth!”

  • You may be surprised that your key to success and the wealth you seek is tied to the souls you win.
  • It also depends on your diligence in working on the harvest field to win more souls to the Lord.
  • Of course, this also applies at work, in your studies, your business, relationships, etc., but we’re talking about souls today.

One day Jesus said to Peter, “Go to the lake and cast your line for fish. Open the mouth of the fish, you will find Gold coins for myself and you (paraphrased).” – Matthew 17:27

A word to the wise… Today’s reflection: how can you win one soul for this week?
