Today’s scripture passage: Proverbs 13
“From the fruit of their lips people enjoy good things but the unfaithful have an appetite for violence”~ Proverbs 13:2
The tongue is probably one of the most underestimated parts of our human body. But that little red thing that protrudes from your mouth can make or unmake you in this life. It can either be a great blessing or create big trouble for you.
- A wise person will therefore harness the power of his tongue for a greater good.
- Jesus said the words that we speak are Spirit and life (John 6:63).
- So whether it’s a casual joke, a flattery, or an exaggeration, we must learn to keep this tongue in check.
Otherwise, we may create serious problems for ourselves in this world. Broken relationships, wars and violence for instance, are oftentimes a result of the wrong use of our tongues.
- Thankfully, the child of God is encouraged to use our speech to our advantage.
- Today’s key verse says:“…good things are a bi-product of our words” (Proverbs 13:2).
- This is to say that we attract good things into our lives by what we say. Even good success is also a result of what proceeds out of our mouth (Joshua 1:8).
It is no wonder that in transforming the Apostles and all His Chosen (including you and I) with the Holy Spirit, God first gave a new tongue and afterwards, a new language! (Acts 2:1-4).
Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
- However, it is impossible to keep saying the right things with your mouth without having the right heart.
- Jesus says, “Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks” – Matt 12:34.
- I encourage you to cultivate the habit of speaking the right things out of a pure heart.
“For he who would love life and see many good days should keep his tongue from evil.” – 1 Peter 3:10
You have tremendous power available to you. I see you creating a wonderful world for yourself and the people around by your words. ~ Rev Simon Ampofo (YouTube || Facebook).
Let’s end today with one last wisdom nugget from Proverbs 13:24
“Whoever spares the rod hates their children, but the one who loves their children is careful to discipline them.” – Proverbs 13:24
- I always thank God for my parents: I am grateful they disciplined me when I was going wayward. They did not spare the rod!
- I can remember having to “face the wall” for a long time, and some of the hot lashes afterwards or on other occassions (Let’s interact in the comments: What disciplines did you go through also?)
- No loving parent enjoys disciplining their child, but they are careful or diligent to do it.

The greatest responsibility that God gives parents is the nurture and guidance of their children. A lack of discipline puts parents’ love in question because avoiding it shows a lack of concern for the character development of their children. Discipline averts long-range disaster.
- Without correction, we will grow up with no clear boundaries or understanding of right and wrong, and with little to no clear direction in our lives. Merrcy!
- Thank God for the people He brought to your life to discipline you at various points.
- And don’t be afraid to discipline your ‘children’ and those you love. It shows you really truly love them.
Hey, you're blessed and highly favoured and dearly loved!
