Once there was a skilled piano master who had a keen student. Before he died, he made a recording for his student, a classical masterpiece he wrote, but he made some slight errors in the recording itself. However, the original piece was kept away, hidden in his room.
The student grew to become a skilled master himself and he learned to play that classical piece from the recording his master had left him. He then made his own recording for his young student but unfortunately added a few more mistakes. Now then, if this little student wants to correct all the errors in the recorded piece, he will need that hidden original sheet. If not, he’ll also pass on the errors, most likely adding a few of his own.
Our parents may have had some experiences in the past that made them ‘ethnicists’, racist, tribalistic, judgmental, and so on. That’s why people some people say, “I love this lady, but I cannot marry her because she’s of this tribe/race.” Now if you and I, in this generation, do nothing to correct these errors, we will pass them on. People are who they are mostly due to their personality and character. Let’s stop the discrimination, the stereotyping and the prejudice.
So, “hi, my name is Eric Ebenezer Boham. I am a Fante and I am not judgmental nor arrogant. Had a crush on an Ewe, and she’s not a witch nor a drunkard. One of my best friends is a Northerner, and she’s peaceful and sweet and understanding. I study with a Ga, and he doesn’t like fighting. I am friends with a German, and she’s not racist.”
It’s your turn to correct the error. Share with your friends and family (insert your name and describe your stereotyped friends as you know them to be).
