“Happy [blessed, considered fortunate, to be admired] is the man who finds [skillful and godly] wisdom, And the man who gains understanding and insight [learning from God’s word and life’s experiences]…” ~ Prov 3:13 AMP
Interestingly, King Solomon uses the same opening as the beatitudes taught by our Lord Jesus (Matthew 5). And from v13-18, the wise king 👑 tells us about six(6) blessings of finding wisdom and gaining understanding.
Yet before he introduces these, he makes us aware that the profits of silver💰, the yield of gold🪙, and the preciousness of rubies 💎 – all of which are just a half-part (½) of the six blessings – cannot compare🙅🏾♂️ to wisdom and understanding✨.
1. Length of days (v16): “Length of days is in her right hand…”
– Wisdom and understanding✨ will increase your days on earth. How? They will teach you to avoid many of the causes of early death. They will also increase your productivity, longevity, and relevance in the life you live (For example: to have ‘length of days’ or longevity in the music ministry🎶, it takes more than vocal skill and talent).
2. Riches and honor (v16): “…In her left hand riches and honor.“
– Wisdom and understanding✨ develop your mind and life gradually to a stage where you begin to attract riches and honour. Riches come from the wealth of gold and silver, and honour comes from a good name and character.
3. Pleasantness and favour (v17): “Her ways are highways of pleasantness and favour…”
– Wisdom and understanding✨ will guide you to live a pleasant life. There is beauty in the manner a wise and understanding person lives. As you pursue this duo, your resulting way of life will cause God and people to be pleased with you; they will love to have you around and you will gain favour before both.
4. Peace (v17): “And all her paths are peace.”
– We all get stressed or worried about some things in life, yet there are so many people today who live stressed. They’re constantly stuck in a chaotic cycle of worry, anxiety, and fear. Wisdom and understanding✨ will direct your path in the peace only God gives; you will be rested in life (v22-26) [eg. Some single people never fear missing their period or getting STIs, because a certain wisdom guides their life].
5. Tree of life (v18): “She is a tree of life to those who take hold of her…”
– By finding wisdom and gaining understanding✨ one can live long and even enter into eternal life. Because wisdom is essentially a person: Jesus. He is the only way to have an abundant life on earth, and an eternal life after.
6. Blessed (v18): “And happy [blessed, considered fortunate, to be admired] is everyone who holds her tightly.” Ultimately, wisdom and understanding✨ will cause you to live a blessed life. May you be blessed as you pursue wisdom and gain understanding this season. May you be admired and considered fortunate! You’re blessed!
