The Game of Investment is all about Profit and Loss. We enter investment plans with the sole aim of making profits, or?? Any hint of a loss informs us to quickly exit from the trade and salvage what remains. In Proverbs 4, we are taught to consider the profits of this treasure hunt:

It is important to know that everything worth investing in has the potential to bring back profit. Everything worth investing in can be profitable (eg. bonds, shares, gold, bitcoin, etc). This is what makes it a valuable commodity to cherish and invest in.

”Wisdom is the most valuable commodity—so buy it! Revelation-knowledge is what you need—so invest in it!

‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭4‬:‭7‬ ‭TPT‬‬

Solomon now calls wisdom a valuable commodity. So we have the assurance that wisdom is also worth the investment of our lives, hunting, and seeking it. Wisdom is a commodity – a useful and valuable thing that can be bought and sold to some degree. Just that its cost is not the usual.

You will need these currencies to buy wisdom:

  • The Currency of Careful Attention (v1): avoid distractions when seeking for the treasures of wisdom.
  • The Currency of Time: give ample time to study and hunt for the treasures of wisdom.
  • The Currency of Resilience to Stay with it (v2): regardless of how thought-provoking wisdom sounds, learn to stick with it. Advance into obedience.
  • The Currency of trust in the insight of Wisdom (v2, 10-13): do not be swayed by opinions that downplay the treasures of wisdom you find.
  • By buying books and procuring audios (sermons), we can expound on the principles of Life from Scripture. This is how we invest in the commodity of wisdom. You can only buy something and cherish it when you have seen its value.

Wisdom is worthy of our investment, no matter how costly it is. “Though it cost all you have, get understanding.” The returns are outstanding and leads men to honor and favor. Even as we journey through Proverbs, get some study commentaries to supplement and ground your findings.

Every day, I realize that the art of pausing or taking a break is not an easy one. There is so much demand upon us to keep advancing and we become preoccupied with so much. We’re preoccupied with school, relationships, money, health, etc, and we never take time to pause.

”My son, if you will take the time to stop and listen to me and embrace what I say, you will live a long and happy life full of understanding in every way.“ ‭‭~ Proverbs‬ ‭4‬:‭10‬ ‭TPT‬‬

  • The final cost of this investment is stillness. The truth is we can accurately hear and deeply listen only when we’re still. In stillness, we will fully embrace the essence of what we find in our hunt.

Then we can act on them, rectifying our mistakes and growing in understanding. We all need a break once in a while to assess ourselves and listen to the criticisms of wisdom. This is how we paint our lives with happiness and understanding.
