Have you ever come across the phrase, “there’s power in words”?

Because I have on countless occasions and I am pretty sure we all have definitely come across this very idea that our words hold in them the weight to change our circumstances.
Amazingly, the Bible does not fail to inform us about the power of words as well.

In Proverbs 15, Solomon writes concerning the value of words and their impact in various situations. Words are ultimately forerunners of life as they convey the thoughts of people into tangible and experiential occurrences.

Words carry power and have the magic to change the outcome of situations as well as steer the expressions of people in a specific direction. Remember, God created the world with words.

Hence, as believers, we’re accountable for every word we utter. Let’s take a walk through Proverbs 15 and listen to what Uncle Solomon has to say concerning words ‭‭(Five quick points).

  • First, our spoken words in the heat of conversations have in them the power to affect the emotions of people. It can either deflect anger or flare up tempers.
  • Secondly, our spoken words are a reflection of the nature of the one who utters them. This means that beyond just what we say, our very nature has more influence on our diction. Jesus said, “What you say flows from what is in your heart” ~ Luke‬ ‭6‬:‭45‬ ‭NLT‬‬.
  • Thirdly, our words have the power to feed life to circumstances and uplift the spirit of others. Just as God instructed Ezekiel to speak to the dry bones in the valley (Ezekiel 37), we can also speak life to dry and dead situations.
  • Fourthly, words that edify and cause others unto growth are from the lips of the wise. It takes a profound understanding of the various concepts and rules of life to communicate knowledge to others and build them up.
  • Finally, the righteous understand the power of words and can foresee the repercussions of what they say. Hence, they weigh their answers and give the needed answers to the questions of life and the confrontations of men.

Speaking right and reason out your thoughts well before you make a speech is a crucial discipline as a wise and devout Christian. Patience and Gentleness are very paramount in applying these verses concerning the matter of words.

One truth I can’t hide is that you must be in-dept in the wisdom of God to walk in such revelation. The Bible says in James that a perfect man is one who can control his tongue. Therefore, listen to Uncle Solomon’s good advice and live a life worthy of the scriptures.
