- We start with the Gospel of Luke today and we’re super excited already. I want to invite you to join in this wonderful adventure to know Jesus.
- Today’s post is inspired by a powerful book by one of my spiritual fathers and mentors: Bishop Dag Heward-Mills (Can’t you do just a little bit more?) Let’s dig in!
Inasmuch as many have taken in hand to set in order a narrative of those things which have been fulfilled among us, just as those who from the beginning were eyewitnesses and ministers of the word delivered them to us..,
it seemed good to me also, having had perfect understanding of all things from the very first, to write to you an orderly account, most excellent Theophilus, that you may know the certainty of those things in which you were instructed. ~ Luke 1:1-4

- I really love Luke’s introduction. It seems he was writing to a King/Governor or someone of high social repute (most excellent Theophilus).
- Ultimately, Luke confirmed many other people had written other Gospels (eg. Matthew, Mark, lost books of the Bible, etc); and now he also had some facts, confirmed by the fullest evidence.
Thousands of witnesses accredited everything Jesus said and did, so he was carrying the fullest conviction of Jesus' divine mission and truth.
- So Luke said: “I hear Matthew has written about Jesus Christ; Mark has also written, and many others have written, etc.”
- But it seems God was asking Luke: “Can’t you do a little extra maybe? Make your own contribution?”
Luke decided to do a little bit more and write down what he had seen and learnt. What a big difference he made! We would not know many things if Luke had not bothered to do a little bit more.

- Perhaps Luke was wondering: “I am just a physician; I wasn’t even among the 12 disciples, why would anyone read my stories about Jesus?“
- And some of us may be wondering, “Why will anyone listen to my song? 🎶 Why will anyone read my testimony?🤷🏾♂️ Why will anyone read my books?📔
- Why will anyone listen to my teaching/podcast?🎙️ Why will anyone let me intercede/pray for them?🔥🙏🏾, etc.
Dear friend, you'd be surprised what your little contribution - your prayer, your Bible study📖, your giving, your care🤗, your witnessing🗣️, your song, book, testimony, etc., - can do! And how much of a difference it will make in future generations IF IT's NOT THERE!!
- Many times, we think there is no need to do our little bit. Thinking that what you are supposed to do is unnecessary will keep you from doing the will of God.
- Thinking someone else is more qualified to do it will keep you from doing the will of God.
- Thinking that it is too little a contribution and it cannot do much, will keep you from doing the will of God.

- There are many parables, revelations and aspects of Jesus’ life we would have missed if Luke hadn’t written.
- If he had said: “Matthew has written and John has written; so there’s no need to also write another.” Mercy!
- We all thank God that Luke decided: “I will make my own little contribution, I’ll just do a little bit more.” (it might be helpful to repeat that phrase).
Can you imagine the tragedy and deep hole in Christianity without the parable of the Good Samaritan, the rich fool, the Prodigal Son, the rich man and Lazarus, etc? Without knowing that men ought to pray always and not faint? (My goodness! And there are ~17 parables and miracles that only Luke wrote about).
- Imagine the many sermons/songs we would miss (eg. Omemma by Chandler Moore) if Luke didn’t write?
- So God is asking you and I: “Why don’t you do a little bit more?” Dear friend, what has God asked you to do, to write, to give, to produce or create, etc?
- You know, I used to wonder when I was led to write and share devotionals (~12 years ago): “Why would anyone ever read what I have to share?”

And maybe you may think: “Many great people have written on this topic (eg. prayer), what will be the use of mine?” I am sent by God to tell you, we need yours also! Make your contribution!
We need your songs, we need your books, we need your sermons, your care, your giving and all that God has given you to do!
- Don’t hide it! Make your own little contribution! There is something that will be missing from our lives if you don’t do your part!
- Dear friend, just a little bit more will make a big difference in your walk with God and in your ministry to others.
- A little bit more intercession, a little bit more Bible study, a little bit more giving, a little bit more contribution with your talent, etc.
May your faith be stirred up to do a little bit more and may God grant us more grace. Heyy... you're blessed and highly favoured and dearly loved!
