Spotlight on you! ~ Rev John Amuasi

5 min read
  • Today we are super excited and blessed to have one of my fathers, Rev Prof Dr John Amuasi, share powerful insights from John 5 with us.
  • In the next 3 minutes, you will be so blessed by these three lessons from John 5:1-15.

Inside the city, near the Sheep Gate, was the pool of Bethesda, with five covered porches. Crowds of sick people—blind, lame, or paralyzed—lay on the porches. One of the men lying there had been sick for thirty-eight years. (John 5:2-5)

Lesson 1

  • There were many people, in fact, five covered porches filled with all kinds of sick people, but Jesus zeroed in on one man… he had been ill for 38 years.
  • It was just like any other day, except that it was that man’s day! Except he did not know it!
  • He was there as usual not because he was expecting anything different, but because it was just his life… to come sit or be placed at the Bethesda poolside.

In fact, it was such a normal day that when an unusual question was asked by Jesus, “Would you like to get well?”, instead of eagerly saying “Yes Sir”, here’s what ensued:

'When Jesus saw him and knew he had been ill for a long time, he asked him, “Would you like to get well?”
“I can’t, sir,” the sick man said, “for I have no one to put me into the pool when the water bubbles up. Someone else always gets there ahead of me.”' ~ John 5:6-7
  • So he was in fact saying he “can’t want to get well!”
  • It does not matter how long it’s been. It takes just a moment for the saviour to spotlight you like He did that man.

For some, you may have to shout like blind Bartimaeus or climb a tree like Zacchaeus. Whatever it be, today the Master’s spotlight is on you!

Lesson 2

He was fixated on his healing being contingent on getting into the pool. But here’s what happened:

'Jesus told him, “Stand up, pick up your mat, and walk!” Instantly, the man was healed! He rolled up his sleeping mat and began walking! But this miracle happened on the Sabbath,' ~ John 5:8-9
  • Could it be that Jesus has a different formula for addressing your issue from what you think it would be?
  • Just be attentive and listen for His instructions, your miracle is on the way!

Lesson 3

Don’t be surprised if your miracle is a bother to some.

'so the Jewish leaders objected. They said to the man who was cured, “You can’t work on the Sabbath! The law doesn’t allow you to carry that sleeping mat!” But he replied, “The man who healed me told me, ‘Pick up your mat and walk.’”
Then the man went and told the Jewish leaders that it was Jesus who had healed him. ' ~ John 5:10-11, 15

Not everyone will rejoice or be glad regarding your breakthrough. There will be those who will say:

  • You did not deserve it! (who does?)
  • You obtained it by foul means! (even though you did not)
  • You were just lucky! (and so what)

Don’t be frazzled. Re-affirm your faith in He who has healed you, delivered you, promoted you, and provided for you. Share your testimony openly. Even greater doors shall open to you!
