Today’s Scripture Passage: Proverbs 3
“Happy [blessed, considered fortunate, to be admired] is the man who finds [skillful and godly] wisdom, And the man who gains understanding and insight [learning from God’s word and life’s experiences]…” ~ Prov 3:13 AMP
Interestingly, King Solomon uses the same opening as the beatitudes taught by our Lord Jesus (Matthew 5). And from Proverbs 13-18, the wise king tells us about six (6) blessings of finding wisdom and gaining understanding.
Yet before he introduces these, he makes us aware that the profits of silver, the yield of gold, and the preciousness of rubies – all of which are just a half-part (½) of the six blessings – cannot compare to wisdom and understanding. He also says that we gain understanding and insight from God’s word and life’s experiences!

1. Length of days (Prov 3:16): “Length of days is in her right hand…”
– Wisdom and understanding will increase your days on earth. How? They will teach you to avoid many of the causes of early death.
There are some decisions that lead to an early grave or put you on the path headed to short life. But wisdom and understanding will keep you far from that in Jesus’ name!
- Wisdom and understanding will also increase your productivity, longevity, and relevance in the different aspects of your life.
- For example: to have ‘length of days’ or longevity in the music ministry, it takes more than vocal skill and talent.
To have ‘length of days’ or longevity in a marriage, it takes more than beauty and charm. Wisdom and understanding will affect that also. You will enjoy longevity and relevance in the various aspects of your life in Jesus’ name!

2. Riches and honor (Prov 3:16): “…In her left hand riches and honor.“
– Wisdom and understanding develop your mind and life gradually to a stage where you begin to attract riches and honour. Riches come from the wealth of gold and silver, and honour comes from a good name and character.
All my mentors and fathers’ say the following in different ways: success is something you attract by the person you become. We do not pursue wealth, we invest in ourselves and become valuable and then you attract wealth and the opportunities that bring it. This is why we keep reading the book of Proverbs (and we’ll never stop!).
May you become valuable in your field of endeavour! May you be sought after because of your wisdom and understanding! May you be honoured greatly because of your integrity and good name! So don’t chase riches, chase wisdom and understanding!

3. Pleasantness and favour (Prov 3: 17): “Her ways are highways of pleasantness and favour…”
– Wisdom and understanding will guide you to live a pleasant life. There is beauty in the manner a wise and understanding person lives. As you pursue this duo, your resulting way of life will cause God and people to be pleased with you; they will love to have you around and you will gain favour before both.
- Favour means you will be chosen over and over again for good things and good opportunities.
- You will be recommended for higher things if you will pursue wisdom and understanding!
- We all know ‘successful’ men and women that we may not even want to be associated with. Why? Because there is no pleasantness in their way of life or success.
But hey, that will not be your portion because you are pursuing wisdom and understanding! You will enjoy a pleasant life and be highly favoured!

4. Peace (Prov 3:17): “And all her paths are peace.”
– We all get stressed or worried about some things in life, but there are so many people today who live stressed. They’re constantly stuck in a chaotic cycle of worry, anxiety, panic, and fear.
Wisdom and understanding will direct your path in the peace only God gives; you will be well rested in life (Prov 3:22-26). eg. Some single people never fear missing their period or getting STIs, because a certain wisdom guides their path in life.
“And ALL her paths are peace.” So wisdom will not lead you to make decisions that lead you iinto chaos, confusion and worry. May the peace of God which passes all understanding keep your heart and mind through Christ Jesus! For God has not given you a spirit of fear, but of power, love and a sound mind!

5. Tree of life (Prov 3:18): “She is a tree of life to those who take hold of her…”
– By finding wisdom and gaining understanding one can live long and even enter into eternal life. Because wisdom is essentially a person: Jesus. He is the only way to have an abundant life on earth, and an eternal life after (John 10:10, John 3:16).
“The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” – John 10:10
6. Blessed (Prov 3:18): “And happy [blessed, considered fortunate, to be admired] is everyone who holds her tightly.” Ultimately, wisdom and understanding will cause you to live a blessed life. May you be blessed as you pursue wisdom and gain understanding this season. May you be admired and considered fortunate! What a blessing and what a life! Don’t trade it for anything else.
Hey, you're blessed and highly favoured and dearly loved!
