Scripture Passage: Proverbs 7
At the window of my house I looked down through the lattice. I saw among the simple, I noticed among the young men, a youth who had no sense. He was going down the street near her corner, walking along in the direction of her house at twilight, as the day was fading, as the dark of night set in. ~ Proverbs 7:6-9
Today, I want to share you another lesson from Proverbs 7. In verse 7 Solomon says, “I saw amongst the simple (naive, inexperienced, gullible), a youth who lacked judgment.” Unfortunately this category of people have increased greatly in our day; simple youth who lack judgment.
Two of such people are described in this passage. First, the young simple man who was headed down the path (check out yesteday’s post). The other one is described in verse 10 (and I’ll stay here so I can another personal experience with you).

In Proverbs 7:10, the mysterious woman is described as one dressed like a prostitute and with crafty intent.
Now this is one of the verses that teaches us that by your clothing and looks, we can tell your intents and the kind of person you are likely to be.
We already addressed this a bit more in one of our previous posts: Fit Check: Dressed for the Right Attention. Do take a moment to check that out (Perhaps we should have an interactive discussion on “Faith and Fashion” to exhaust this… Let us know your thoughts in the comments).

But Solomon goes on to say that this lady is loud, defiant, seductive.
Now I have known someone like that, a neighbor’s friend; whose name begins with one of the letters of the alphabets (Hehe; sorry I can’t say… someone may recognize her).
But one time, she called me at night to go see her (for a sleepover because her mother was out of town). Ei! I was in my first year in High School then and had just come home for vacation.
Now at that young age, her persuasive words got me wanting to go.
Honestly eh, I really wanted to go, she was sweet-tongued and she is the first lady who kissed me (a couple of days before this phone call).

So the young me had his blood excited about more kissing, and she was saying some more wild things… Eish! At a point, we were even discussing how to make-up some excuse to my parents so I could get out of my house for the night (it didn’t work).
Because I lived in a house where you couldn’t go and come as you wanted (naah not with my wise parents), so I believe that is what actually saved me. Their wisdom; not mine (A shoutout to my Dad who celebrated his 70th yesterday; Nyame nhyira wo).
Yes, that is the wisdom that saved this youth who lacked judgement, (which was me), from v.27: “Her house is a highway to the grave, leading down the chambers of death.”

- We may all know ladies or men with such lack of judgment or we may be such ourselves.
- Prov 7: 26-27 says many (meaning more than half; so at least 60% if we’re being conservative) have been brought down by this.
- But only wisdom and understanding – in my case it wasn’t even my wisdom, but that of my parents – It is wisdom that can keep us from the “highway to the grave.”
Say to [skillful and godly] wisdom, “You are my sister,” And regard understanding and intelligent insight as your intimate friends; That they may keep you from the immoral woman, From the foreigner [who does not observe God’s laws and] who flatters with her [smooth] words. Prov 7:4-5
If we will be very honest, some of us have been youth lacking judgement; and some of us may still be (You may be warning me in your head: “Boham… careful now”).

You may be thinking “argh, if it were me, I would be able to tell his/her intent” OR “Me I know boys very well/ I know girls very well..” OR “Oh me I would have gone, nothing would have happened, I know what to do.” (Ei Master and Miss All-knowing)
This is where you have actually missed the entire wisdom lesson in this passage. But do tell us (comment section), where do you think the wisdom lesson actually is? (Let Proverbs 7:24-27 below guide you find it).
Now then, my sons, listen to me; pay attention to what I say. Do not let your heart turn to her ways or stray into her paths. Many are the victims she has brought down; her slain are a mighty throng. Her house is a highway to the grave, leading down to the chambers of death. ~ Proverbs 7:24-27 NIV
