I love ice cream, and chocolate a lot. Some people attribute it to me being a Fante, either way, I enjoy them. Ice cream is sweet – chocolate also – and we all like some sweet things. And you see, love is to be enjoyed too; like ice cream and chocolate.

One of the things that makes us enjoy ice cream/chocolate are the different flavours used. Today, we share my father’s teaching on how to have a relationship full of FLAVOUR.

F: Fill your life with the water of the Holy Spirit:

A relationship is not so much about finding the right person, than it is about you being the right person.

The Holy Spirit is called the sweet Spirit of God. You’ve got to fill yourself first with the sweet Spirit before you can draw out sweetness from you (John 2:6-7). He will teach you into all truth (John 14:26) of having the best and sweetest relationship.

  • He will teach you to be humble and gentle (James 3:17).
  • He will teach you to have respect and honour your partner (You won’t abuse them with words and insults; nor emotions; nor will you attempt to hit them).
  • He will teach you to love and enjoy your relationship (Eccl 9:9). Stop chasing after other things and first concentrate on the filling of the Holy Spirit.
L: Love unconditionally, learn by listening and laugh a lot:

Love is not a feeling, love is an obedient decision to unconditional sacrifice (1 Cor 13:4-8). Smile and have a good countenance also.

Learn a lot about your spouse or potential spouse by listening. Try and ask spontaneous questions to find out about the other person. Draw out their thoughts on important issues.

Bible says, “A wise man will listen and add to his learning (Prov 1:5).” Ow and laugh a lot, have fun and enjoy each other’s company, it is very important.

A: Avoid awakening or arousing love until it so desires:

Simply put, avoid indulging in lustful pleasure, fornication, adultery and sexual immorality. “Daughters of Jerusalem, I charge you: Do not arouse or awaken love until it so desires.”

  • To awaken something means that thing is alive but asleep.
  • What this means is that, passion and Eros love is inherent in our nature; it is alive inside you.
  • It is something our very fleshy nature desires, so be careful and wait till marriage to stir it up.

“The two (husband and wife) shall become one flesh.” So God says wait until you’re husband and wife to be one physically.

Avoiding lust and sex till marriage, will bring a lot of flavour in your relationship now and in the future. It brings respect, honour and trust. Save yourself from the regrets, tension, and distrust in the future.

  • This particular verse is repeated in Songs of Solomon three times; it is not a passing comment or a casual suggestion: “DO NOT awaken love until it so desires..”
  • Believe this, sex is not just a physical act; be careful.
  • Don’t sow a seed of sin in your relationship; you will reap its consequences later.

Know this, God does not excuse sin because we’re in ‘love’ and no one else is getting hurt by our actions.
